FEBRUARY DAY CAMPS AT CANMORE MUSEUM
Step into winter fun and learning at the Canmore Museum! Inspired by our Land of Thundering Snow exhibit, our February Day Camps invite kids to explore the powerful forces that shape life in the Bow Valley. Through hands-on activities, outdoor discovery, and behind-the-scenes experiences at the Museum and historic NWMP Barracks, campers will learn how people, wildlife, and landscapes have adapted to snow, cold, and mountain winters.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
- Behind-the-scenes exploration of the Canmore Museum and historic NWMP Barracks
- Hands-on learning and creative activities inspired by winter science and ecology
- Outdoor discovery and guided explorations around town
- Interactive games and challenges focused on winter survival and adaptation
- Nature-based investigations that encourage curiosity and teamwork

SPRING BREAK DAY CAMPS AT CANMORE MUSEUM
Spend spring break exploring, creating, and discovering at the Canmore Museum! Our Spring Break Day Camps invite kids to dive into local history, nature, and creativity through hands-on activities, gallery exploration, outdoor adventures, and playful learning. Each week features a different theme, giving campers the chance to experience something new while connecting to the stories and landscapes of the Bow Valley.
Camps take place at the Canmore Museum and historic NWMP Barracks, with activities designed to encourage curiosity, movement, teamwork, and imagination.
WEEK 1: HISTORY DETECTIVES
What does it really mean to work in a museum? In this week, campers step behind the scenes to discover how museums collect, care for, and share stories. Through interactive activities and creative projects, kids will explore the past while becoming storytellers themselves.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
- Behind-the-scenes exploration of the Canmore Museum
- Hands-on artifact discovery and object handling
- Learning how exhibits are created, from idea to display
- Interactive gallery challenges and scavenger hunts
- Creative projects inspired by museum collections
- Storytelling, drawing, and building inspired by local history
- Outdoor play and exploration at the historic NWMP Barracks
- Collaborative games and problem-solving activities

WEEK 2: SPRING IN THE BOW VALLEY
As the seasons change, the Bow Valley comes alive! This nature-focused week explores how plants, animals, people, and landscapes adapt during springtime in the mountains. Campers will head outdoors, get curious about the natural world, and connect environmental science with local history.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
- Exploring signs of spring in the Bow Valley
- Learning about local wildlife and their seasonal behaviours
- Nature walks and outdoor observation activities
- Hands-on experiments and simple science activities
- Art and crafts inspired by plants, animals, and landscapes
- Learning about waterways, weather, and mountain environments
- Outdoor games and movement-based activities
- Connecting nature learning to stories from Canmore’s past
