We are excited to welcome three exceptionally qualified seasonal staff to the Canmore Museum team this summer, Alissa, Cole and Mark.
Alissa Sallans, Interpreter
Alissa is a graduate of Trent University with a B.A. in International Development and Environmental Studies and is one of two seasonal interpreters working for the Canmore Museum.
“I have always thought that informal education plays such a huge role in personal and social development, and have engaged with it through my volunteerism with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, as well as previous jobs such as working as an interpreter in the Ontario Parks system. I am thrilled to be working for the museum helping to run engaging programs for kids, designing interpretive panels for display, and supporting virtual and take-home programming for the community as I really enjoy putting into practice the process of piecing together interactive elements to engage people in learning. I am also excited to be the site coordinator for the Art in the Park events that the museum is hosting throughout August, as I have been developing my communication and coordination skills in the pre-event logistics planning.”
Cole LeGree, Collections Assistant
Cole’s entry into the world of museums and archives is unconventional. Throughout his studies in photography, he took a keen interest in how photographs function as both artifacts and public records. In addition to applying darkroom techniques in his own artistic practice, he is increasingly interested in how historical objects can be used to make sense of our present-day experiences.
In addition to assisting Amy, our collections manager, Cole has applied his unique background to the museum’s exhibition planning, and has contributed several of his own images to the CMAGs COVID-19 archive. Cole has also contributed his expertise to our ongoing photogrammetry project and AR app, allowing visitors to experience museums artifacts and stories from the comfort of their own homes.
In addition to deepening his understanding of museum operations, Cole’s summer contract at CMAGs has allowed him to gain experience outside of typical collections management by self-directing a diverse array of unique projects, including photogrammetry, gallery installation, and executing his own photographic exhibition.
Mark Goudie, Interpreter
Originally from Vancouver, Mark completed a History degree at the University of British Columbia and a Masters in Public History and Archives at New York University. Mark has worked at a number of museums and cultural institutions including the New-York Historical Society, the Vancouver Maritime Museum, the Eleanor Roosevelt Papers Project in Washington D.C., and Heritage B.C. He loves making history come alive, and finding new, forward thinking ways to make the past relevant, impactful, and interesting. This summer, he will primarily be working at the historic NWMP Barracks site with the goal of increasing attendance and making the space dynamic and welcoming. Mark hopes to learn more about the wonderful town of Canmore, and to assist with the important mission of making the NWMP Barracks an important community space!
From our socially distanced Mid-Season BBQ! Big thanks to Jarrid for hosting.
