Join us for an exciting book talk featuring Bonnie J. Kaplan, author of The Better Brain, facilitated by local creative director, Bridget Ryan. As part of our programming for the current exhibit Soil Superheroes, Kaplan will delve into the fascinating connections between soil, food, and brain health outlined in her book.

Discover how the quality of our soil and the food it produces can impact cognitive function and overall brain health. Kaplan’s insights offer valuable knowledge for anyone interested in optimizing brain performance and well-being.

Book talk from 7:00 PM – 7:45 PM, followed by a short Q&A session, light refreshments and book signings.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bonnie J Kaplan, PhD, is Professor Emeritus in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary; website here. She has published widely on the contribution of nutrition to mental health. Her efforts to include nutrition knowledge in the care of people with mental health challenges has earned her a variety of awards: the Dr. Rogers Prize, selection as one of 150 Canadian Difference Makers in Mental Health, and the top “7 Over 70” in Calgary. Her book The Better Brain, was written with Professor Julia Rucklidge. Her goal is to influence the way mental health treatment is delivered.

ABOUT THE BOOK

THE BETTER BRAIN, a paradigm-shifting approach to treating mental disorders like anxiety, depression, and ADHD with food and nutrients, based on the original, groundbreaking research of two leading scientists.

We are in the midst of a mental health crisis. An estimated one in five American adults suffer from some form of mental illness. Despite the billions of dollars spent in pharmaceutical research and the rising popularity of antidepressant drugs, we are more depressed and anxious than ever before.

What if we’re looking for solutions in the wrong places? What if instead of treating mental illness with prescriptions and medication, we changed what we eat and how we feed our brains?
