In the 1920s, Canmore’s population grew from around 650 to over 950. To meet the needs of the growing town, a new brick and stone school was built in 1922 – the first building in Townside to have electric lighting. Electric lighting is not the only difference between life in early Canmore and life today. Corporal Clark and his family also made the Barracks their home from 1917 to 1929.

Drop by the Barracks to learn more about how life has changed from the 1920s to now with hands-on activities which explore everything from games played, how food was kept fresh, how clothes were maintained, and heating the Barracks in winter.

This is a free program, but program registration is highly enouraged. Walk-in participation may be accomodated, capacity dependent. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult.
