The Canmore Museum is undertaking several heritage planning and development iinitiativesniatives, including a heritage inventory update, the Canmore Mining Heritage Strategy, and a RE-ORG of its collections. Throughout today, join museum staff, contractors, and volunteers to get a behind-the-scenes look at the many projects being undertaken to protect, preserve and promote Canmore’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
COLLECTIONS TOURS
Join our Collections Officer, Mercedes Cormier, for a tour of the Canmore Museum’s collections areas and learn more about how the museum’s collections team of staff and volunteers are working to assess and re-organize the over 5,000 objects in the museum’s collections so they are better conserved and tell a more cohesive story of Canmore from its earliest days to present. Tours of the collections start at 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm; meet at the Front Desk of the Canmore Museum
COMMUNITY ARCHIVES
Community archives volunteers will be on hand to share some of the many photos which need to be identified to help tell a better community story.
COMMUNITY + ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Local natural and cultural heritage partners will also be onhand to answer your questions about the many community-based sustainability initiatives that are protecting our natural + cultural resources.
The Canmore Heritage Open House coinincides with Canada’s Historic Places Days with a focus on sustainable and inclusive community heritage and stories.
